It’s a strange sensation I usually have when I happen to meet Italians who have just arrived in this land, animated by a strong interest in comparing whatever they notice against what they’ve left. The sensation is that we don’t really know our Italy that much, and it’s exactly when we happen to be “outside” that we suddenly begin to develop more interest in its deep knowledge.
